Recently a very liberal columnist named Wiley Hilburn wrote a column for the Monroe, Louisiana "News-Star." He was writing about the monstrous new "health care" reform bill that some have renamed "Obamascare."

Hilburn, in typical liberal style, heaped praises on this monstrosity, telling his poor readers that this bill was "the right thing, the moral thing, even the Christian thing to do." Suffice it to say that Mr. Hilburn and I have different world views. Obamacare was not the Christian thing to do--rather it was the communist thing to do.

Whenever the government forces you to pay for something for someone else it is not Christian charity, it is communism. Christian charity is voluntary, while communism is mandatory--just like Obamacare. The government will take from some and give to others without their consent.

The Eighth Commandment simply states "Thou shalt not steal." Theft is defined as "taking another man's property, by coercion, fraud, or without his uncoerced consent." This is not simply a commandment for individuals. It applies to governments as well. It does not say "Thou shalt not steal as an individual--but it's okay if the government does it." The same standard applies to both individuals and governments. Theft is theft, whether individual or federal.

There is no Christian charity involved here. Most of us will pay whether we want to or not.

Hilburn stated in his article "we are our brother's keeper." Though with Obamacare, none of us personally gets a chance to do that. Through coercion and taxes, the federal government ends up being everybody's keeper--or maybe the term "warden" would be more appropriate.

A country where the federal government can force you to have health insurance under threat of fine or prison has ceased to be a free country. Or, as I've said in the past--welcome to post-America!
