A Nigerian, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallib, was supposedly caught trying to blow up an airliner headed for Detroit. There hasn’t been tons of background on this character out there, but there has been some. He has been reported as a “floater” going from country to country, apparently living in pretty high style. His father wrote letters to the officials in two different countries, in which he tried to warn them about his son’s militant extremism. He was on a suspect list used to try to screen out potential terrorists. That did a lot of good, didn’t it?

In Amsterdam he didn’t even have a passport so “someone dressed is an expensive suit” intervened with the authorities “on his behalf.” They talked to someone else, supposedly in a position of authority, who agreed that he could fly anyway--without the passport. Though an international traveler, he is only toting small, carry-on luggage. Despite all of this, no one thinks to give him a “pat-down” search or any other kind of test or detection and so he gets on the plane to Detroit and, as I understand it, was overpowered by other passengers on the flight before he could do major damage. Is this a dicey situation or what? As that famous Christian patriot, Patrick Henry said “I smell a rat.”

It seems, at the outset, that the problem was with the Dutch, who, one way or another, allowed him to get on the plane, and yet Americans will now suffer even further Mickey Mouse travel rules and restrictions because of that. You have to wonder if that is what it was all about to begin with.

It was noted on http://buffalohair.wordpress.com that “Clearly the blame falls on Dutch authorities for this security breach and not that of US citizens or the TSA, yet the administration went on to install more paranoid restrictions on the American side of the ocean. Obviously this administration has taken a hard line on air safety while punishing American passengers with another round of xenophobic fears. Seems the only people Obama is tough on are the American citizens with all his legislative ka ka.” As I said earlier, you have to wonder if that’s what it was all about. It seems the would-be terrorist came from a pretty affluent family. His father was a banker.

Of course “our” government seemed to put out the theory that this character was only another in a long series of “lone wolf” terrorists, with no connections to anyone. Supposedly a “right-wing nut”--terrorist style! Well, that ain’t quite the way it really was (but is anything the government tells us anymore “the way it really was”?)

It seems this man’s suicide mission was “personally blessed” in Yemen by Anwar al-Awlaki. It seems that Mr. al- Awlaki is an American born Muslim cleric who once had a mosque in Northern Virginia. He recently gained a little recognition because he was a major influence on Major Nidal Hassan--a Muslim, also born in this country, who proceeded to act out his Muslim faith by gunning down thirteen people at Fort Hood, Texas. This was according to an article in The Washington Times for December 29, 2009.

And http://newsmax.com for December 30th  in an article by Jim Meyers observed that: “President Obama has acknowledged that the United States had early signals that a terrorist attack was being plotted in Yemen and failed to take adequate steps to prevent it…Two officials said the government had intelligence from Yemen before Friday that leaders of a branch of Al Qaeda were talking about ‘a Nigerian’ being prepared for a terrorist attack.”

Supposedly, Obama admitted that a “systemic failure” had occurred. Fine, so why not “fix” the system rather than plow Americans under with more stultifying travel regulations? Because “fixing the system” is not what it’s all about--beginning to pull the strings of travel restriction around the necks of American citizens is what it’s all about. It will be interesting to see if this character ever stands trial. It will be interesting to see what happens when and if Nidal Hasan stands trial. Or will trial dates for these turkeys be so far down the road that the average American will have forgotten about them in their struggles to find a way to live (or die) with the new draconian “health care” plan Congress is trying to foist upon us?

Governments and other Marxists have a way of creating incidents to scare the public that will allow them to force more and more restrictions on people’s liberty in the name of “peace and safety”--neither of which ever actually seems to occur as a result of the restrictions. Hence, down the road, we have yet another “incident” and more chains can be forged for us, again, in the name of safety. At some point, Americans may need to make a decision as to whether they want to endure the “safety” of the concentration camp or try to partake of the liberties that come from God, which are our birthright.
