I love to see power in competent hands. In the past two weeks John Edwards, even though he is now a noncandidate, showed that he retains an enormous amount of power in the Democratic camp and just might be a king maker.
He did this in a very simple way that I am sure was not lost on the candidates. He made each of them, during their very busy campaign schedules, get on an airplane and come down to North Carolina to see him to discuss all of their futures.
Can you just imagine the conversations between the candidates and their trusted staffs on the ride to North Carolina. Who will speak first? Where should I sit? Should I shake hands or hug? How hard do I push? What should I offer?Who decides when the meeting is over?
Think also of the evaluations on the ride back. Who won? What do you think that he will do? Can he be trusted?
When one loser can sit at home in North Carolina and just sit; that my friend is power.
