lMay 1, 2008.
I was watching the most recent set of denials by the Obama Camp on the Reverend Wright mixup and what suddenly grabbed me out of the blue was that Barack was not only sitting behind Mrs O but that she was taking the lead in the interview.
Her comments were that in the "Team" she was the cynic and he was Mr. Hope. He really didn't talk at all (or even attempt to interrupt her). I came away with the sinking feeling that for the first time I was getting a real insight into Him. He wants to think "nice". He wants to campaign "clean". He wants to be positive. He doesn't want to fight. He just wants to brush these things off his shoulder. He allows/expects/wants her to do the fighting for him/them.
I don't know who first used the phrase about having or not having "fire in the belly" about various candidates, but that is now my impression of Obama. He will not fight to become President. He gave me the impression that he was hiding behind his wife's skirt. He does not have the "fire in the belly" to be the President of the United States.
In my mind this does not bode well should he be elected.
I do not want a "Team". I want a single candidate who will take action and will accept responsibility for those actions. I do not want Obama answering the proverbial red phone at three in the morning and handing the phone over to Michele for a response.
While I can see Hillary as President, I think that she was a very disturbing presence in the White House as First Lady during the Clinton years.
It is still too early to for me to have other than a first impression of the role that Mrs O would play in his administration, but recent history of a strong First Lady/wife/lawyer scares me. Wives of Presidents can wear pant suits while campaigning, but they should not wear the pants in the Administration.
Let's just watch and see what develops.
