Dear Friends take a moment to think through the ramifications of what the Kennedys are trying to do up in Massachusetts. They want to change the law BACK to what it was before, because at that time they were afraid that the then Governor (Romney) might have an opportunity to name a replacement for John Kerry if he became President.
There was wisdom in the change even though the motivation was pure politics.
In the case at hand. They, the Kennedys, want to control Massachusetts politics from the grave. What else is new. They have been doing this since 1963.
Just think through what would happen if they are successful. We would have an appointed Senator, who has promised not to run for the position and thus is free from being responsive to the people by standing for election, voting on YOUR health care which will be the most expensive bill of the decade He/She would bring nothing to the table in terms of knowledge of the proposed legislation which will be voted upon before the end of the year and not be responsible to the public for the consequences of the vote. Come on folks, this is stupid. This person would be the 60th vote in the Senate.
Let's at least demand, through public opinion, that the law not be changed and that a real political race take place.
N.B. While you are thinking about it, ask yourself why the Governor wants a return of the power to appoint. While you are mulling this over think of what went on behind the scenes in Illinois on its senate vacancy. Neither Illinois, Massachusetts nor New Jersey wins any awards for political purity.
Thanks for getting this far
