You’ve been riding your bicycle around your neighborhood, but it’s becoming boring and predictable. You’ve been thinking of doing more exploring on your bike, but haven’t gotten around to it. Here are some hints to help you expand your riding options:

  • When you leave your home by car, keep a look out for bicyclists in the area. Being alert to bicyclists as a motorist is always the safe thing to do, but it also tells you where bicyclists feel comfortable riding. You may want to return on your bicycle to the same streets.

  • Select a new destination for a ride. It could be a relative or friend’s house, a park, the library, the ice cream shop, the bank or anywhere you choose.

  • Make friends with other bicyclists in your neighborhood and join them for a ride.

  • Check the Internet for bike clubs in your area. Many have regularly scheduled rides in the evening and on weekends during the spring, summer and fall.

  • Load your bicycle into your car and explore a state park or trail.

  • Do a charity or invitational ride. These are organized rides of varying distances with vehicles which cruise the routes to help bicyclists in difficulty. These rides also have rest stops stocked with refreshments to keep you going..
