The Warrenville Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission and the Warrenville Park District will co-host the sixth annual Warrenville Bike Rodeo. The event will be on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the City Hall parking lot on Stafford Place near the Gazebo. The City of Warrenville, the Warrenville Park District, Warrenville Public Library, and Liberty Mutual Insurance will sponsor the event. And it is FREE to the public! Each sponsor will have some fun giveaways as well as educational materials about bicycle safety. Great raffle prizes, like bicycles and helmets, will be available. Children will have an opportunity to ride a safety course and police officers will be on hand to register bicycles.
Throughout the warm months, Illinois’ bicycle clubs, various charities, and other organizations conduct a large number of organized bike rides. These rides are open to the public for a registration fee and/or pledges from others. There is information available in your favorite bike shop. You can also check on line at bikelib.org.
Many (but not all) of the rides are weekend single-day rides, on relatively quiet rural roads, with a few mileage options. Some rides attract dozens, many others bring in hundreds, and a few range from 1,000 to 20,000! For cyclists ready to try more road riding, try one of these rides – the “safety in numbers” can give you experience to increase your confidence.
One of the best bike rides in the nation takes place on May 29, 2011 alongside the gorgeous Chicago shoreline. Ride alongside the shimmering water of Lake Michigan and enjoy great views of the city skyline btdinfo11@activetrans.org
Please remember: when you’re out on an organized ride (or any ride), be a good ambassador for bicycling by following the rules of the road. It makes a difference
