The first thing we can do is to participate in making Warrenville a more friendly walking and biking community. Back in December of 2008, the City of Warrenville adopted the Bikeway Implementation Plan that had been prepared by the Warrenville Bicyclists and Pedestrian Advisory Commission with support from both the City Staff and Elected Officials. The main purpose of this report was to identify the key improvements necessary to provide more efficient and logical means of pedestrian and bicycle travel within our City. These improvements were collectively decided upon based on the value added to the existing City Bicycle system, and also the regional significance and connectivity that they would provide.

During the summer of 2009 the City began the Bikeway implementation Plan - Phase II which is being presented for public comment this month. The purpose of this phase of the planning is to evaluate each project and determine the feasibility and estimates of cost associated with these projects.  Additionally, where appropriate, potential hurdles and obstacles have been identified that may impact the implementation of the project.

I urge you to attend one of the Public Forum meetings which will be held on two dates this month. The first on Saturday, September 18 from 9 to 11 and the second meeting on Tuesday, September 21 from 6 to 8 pm, both meetings being held at Warrenville City Hall.

. The second thing we can do is to join in on the  Chicagoland Car-Free Day—Sept. 22. Pledge to leave the car at home for Chicagoland Car-Free Day, Sept. 22. This year, the Active Transportation Alliance will again partner with RTA, Pace, Metra, CTA and communities around the region for Chicagoland Car-Free Day. The event is part of World Car-Free Day, the one moment when people around the world pledge to go sans auto. Everyone is invited to take the Chicagoland Car-Free Day Pledge, even if you were already planning to walk, bike or take public transit on Car-Free Day. Once you take the pledge, you’ll be eligible to receive special discounts from Active Transportation Alliance partners. Go online to http://www.activetrans.org/carfree

One more thing  -  get out on your bike and enjoy September!
