Two New State Laws
Complete Streets is now Illinois law for IDOT road designs! A 109-3 vote in the Illinois House on October 10 completed an override of a Gov. Blagojevich amendatory veto. IDOT reconstruction and expansion roadwork in urban areas must now include provision for people who walk or bike.

Three Foot Passing is now a Law. The Law was signed into law on August 16! Proposed by the League of Illinois Bicyclists,, the new law will: - require motorists to leave a minimum of 3 feet when passing a bike
- allow cyclists to "take the lane" where right turns are authorized
- allow the option of a right arm hand signal when turning right

Trail Etiquette There are some simple rules (what I refer to as “common sense”), that make our trails safer and more enjoyable for everyone who uses them. Stay to the right. Pass only on the left and only when you can see that it is safe to do so. Be sure to leave room for others to pass you. If there are two or more of you go single file. Be extra cautious when approaching horses. Horses startle easy. Slow down and give them room. Even though dogs are welcome on the trails, they must be on leashes no longer than 10 ft. Always clean up after your dog.
