Winter ice, road salt and mud can accelerate the deterioration of a bike’s moving parts and brake pads. For efficient winter riding whatever nature throws your way, step up your bike maintenance. You might consider installing front and rear fenders or easy mount splash guards. Be sure to clean the rims whenever you see them getting dirty. You’ll also need to lube all moving parts and cables frequently. If your front and rear lights are battery powered and are detachable, get them inside whenever the temperature gets below freezing.

Wear Bright reflective clothing. Dress in layers. Lightweight waterproof booties can help keep your toes warm.

Biking to work in the spring and summer can be a joy. Many diehard cyclists pedal through all kinds of weather all year long and using some of the above strategies can really be helpful.
