Historic events were occurring yesterday in downtown Christiansburg, as the town's contractor H.T. Bowling had its sub-contracted crews laying asphalt on Main Street from town square west to Phlegar Street.  Even with overnight lows of 30 degrees.

Two traffic lanes were almost completed by 5 pm Wednesday, with curb side trim out on each side of the street being done as we read.  Remaining tasks are lamp posts, donated town clock and street sign installation.

After five years overall and especially since November 2006, no more teeth rattling, war-torn Main Street roadway.  Only a temporary inconvenience to businesses unaware of zero on-street parking (so customers could be given a heads up).

Yet visual, actual progress.  A historic May Day, indeed.
