If at no other time of the year, the budget development cycle is when Montgomery County residents should be paying close attention to the Board of Supervisors agenda.
Their next regular meeting is scheduled Monday, March 2 at 7:15 pm, with a closed session beginning at 6 pm. Key items include a delegation from the library system presenting their recommendations for 2009-2010 funding, and several Public Hearings on Special Use permits.
Another hearing will address the "Joint Economic Development & Growth Sharing Agreement" relative to a boundary line at the Mid-County (Wheatland, Farmview Road) area for just over 49 acres. That stemmed from a denied rezoning request to the county, with the property then shifting to the town with B-3 Business zoning. The town's Planning Commission reviewed this request on May 14, 2007 and unanimously recommended this zoning to Town Council on May 15, 2007. Council accepted the recommendation and also unanimously voted to approve the boundary line adjustment that night. Subsequently, the town and county have been negotiating on a revenue sharing agreement for future development which may occur at this site (although at the time of the town's vote no plans had been submitted for the property).
The supervisors will continue discussion on a Memorandum of Understanding for a feasibility study of a joint 911 communications center, with possible funding requirements of $25,000.
The supervisors will hear the Planning Commission's Board of Zoning Appeal's annual report and go into work session to continue budget discussion for fiscal year 2009-2010. Citizens can expect speculation about potential benefits expected relative to the Federal Stimulus Package.
Now is the time for residents to be involved, developing an understanding of services our county government provides -- and their current and future costs.
