As the school year started I knew that it would be getting closer to the next time I would get to see my team! The Fall Officer Meeting. It was held in Flatwoods, West Virginia, the exact center of the state, for those of you who didn’t know that. We got to get together on Thursday the Tenth and put our final touches on our presentations for our chapter visit to Braxton County High School. On Friday morning we woke up bright and early to get all decked out in our OD or (official Dress) for the big chapter visit...the very first one we would ever do. So I decided I was going to sleep in just a little longer. When I did get up at about 6:30 AM!!! I started getting dresses. I put on my panty hoes first like always ladies! Then I went to reach for my skirt...and it wasn’t there. I panicked and ran to the other 7 girl officers to see if they had brought an extra like we always do, but for some reason no one had one... so I was stressing.
Thanks to Eleanor and Hillary for thinking of a past state officer who had family close. Eleanor called Allison Peters last year’s state officer and asked if she could provide a skirt for me. Allison woke up her poor Grandma, Her Grandma Drove to Burnsville exit which is 13 miles from Flatwoods and she met me at a bank right off the exit. I felt so bad because we had gotten her out of bed. But Thank you so much for bringing it to me, I don’t know what I would have done without her, even though I had no clue who she was I gave her a big ol’ hug and we went our separate ways…as I flew back to Flatwoods…I mean drove the speed limit of course…I arrived at Flatwoods at 7:15 I still had enough time to do my hair and put on make-up before we had to meet for breakfast…as we departed for BCHS I started getting a little nervous, but as the day went on we had loads of fun with the kids and now I think I can speak for all of us when I say we can’t wait to do our individual chapter visits.
After all the drama ended that day we got to relax and eat a very nice dinner. That evening we did our “Me in the Box” activity and got to know a little more about each other and a couple different sides of people. Actually we got some pretty sad news as well, as you all know Mr. Burdette our wonderful State Advisor will no longer be our Advisor as of October First. We are all so proud of him for his new job to come. Mr. Burdette you have reached a wonderful height in your career and we are all very proud of you. Good luck in your year to come with your new job.
